'I gazed out at the mists that have blighted my gardening plans'

CHANGE the time, change the weather, I mused, pausing to recall one of many fine old country sayings now occupying valuable brain cells that could be put to better use.

Not that old surely, I mused a little further, keeping the carpet-shampooing machine switch in the "Off" position while gazing out at the mists that have blighted gardening plans this week since the spring forwarding of clocks.

Anarchist book fair has debut

NEW YORK -- It may be the center of the capitalist universe, but New York still managed to rally hundreds of revolutionaries, students and the plain curious for its first anarchist book fair last weekend.
Although the prospect of barricades on Broadway and violent revolution appear remote, the anarchist movement appears to be attracting a broad spectrum of countercultural followers disillusioned with the state of U.S. politics.
With titles on offer ranging from "Organic Market Gardening" and "Crimethink for Beginners" to the enigmatic "Bicycling Science" and "Animal Rights and Pornography," Saturday's book fair reflected diverse manifestos.
Organizers said they were happy to welcome the "anarcho-curious" as well as veteran radicals to the Greenwich Village event in downtown Manhattan.

800 trees and 400000 flowers to be planted in Krasnoyarsk by summer

Spring two months' city cleaning campaign has started in Krasnoyarsk April 16. As Krasnoyarsk Mayor's Office reported, the campaign had started unofficially in all the city districts on April 6. Streets are being cleaned from litter, and fences are being washed all over in Krasnoyarsk. Traditional action "The Week of Memory" will be held to clean city cemeteries between April 16 and 22. More than 2,500 people are expected to take part in it.

Landscape gardeners will be working for two months too, cutting out dry trees, planting trees, bushes and flowers, reconstructing green sculptures in the parks and on the squares. The Directorate for Landscape Gardening plans to plant 800 nursery plants, 1,500 bush plants, and up to 400,000 flowers. It is also planned to repair more than 2,000 square meters of lawns.

White Lake project

Sparta n Some decisions on the White Lake project were finalized by the township council last week, while others are still up for discussion.Council also adopted an ordinance allowing for a 1 percent increase in the tax cap for the current budget to meet guidelines.A wall is to be erected in the White Lake recreation area but the council is waiting to see what can be done in-house instead of paying $25,000 to have a professional company complete the project. Charles Ryan, the township engineer, said when the project was originally discussed, township employees were set to do the work., but now he isn't sure they could do what a professional company could. "We would like to take bids and have a professional landscaping company do the work," he said. "This is going to be very visible if it is done perfect especially with the stair."Councilman Brian Brady disagreed with that assessment and said it is worth the $17,000 savings if the project could be done in-house and having the township just purchase the materials costing approximately $7,000 to $8,000.
