| Titchmarsh in skunk denial
Gardening legend Alan Titchmarsh has been forced to deny that he grows his own skunk, after a hoax clip turned up on YouTube apparently showing him doing just that. In the clip, footage of Titchmarsh appears to show him preparing to plant seeds from packets labelled 'Super Skunk' and Purple Haze'. It uses a clip from Gardener's World, but with new footage inserted in it to make it appear that Titchmarsh is planting a crop of weed. Titchmarsh told Amateur Gardening magazine in an interview: 'Alas, it is something all people in the public eye now have to cope with and it points up to that one regrettable fact: that anyone can put anything on the internet regardless of its veracity and get away with it.' But Titchmarsh is apparently unaware that the clip actually comes from a BBC comedy show.
Green Marin: Learning from 'smartest house' winner
Meredith Pike-Baky is on the phone. She has troubles. "I had to take a lukewarm shower," she says, adding, "I shouldn't have to take a hot tub after I take a shower." In any other home that's hosted a parade of plumbers, gardeners and various men with toolboxes, this would be called complaining. But for this San Rafael homeowner, the entire process has been "empowering." Really. Pike-Baky won the Marin Municipal Water District's "Smartest House on the Block" contest last year and has turned her Terra Linda Eichler into a laboratory of the latest, greenest gear. With herself as guinea pig. A very willing guinea pig. "It's completely revolutionized my attitude about this house," the near-empty nester says. Pike-Baky's home now has: ultra-low water; dual-flush Toto toilets; a front-loading, water-saving washing machine; an on-demand water heater; aerating faucets and shower heads; drought-resistant landscaping; and irrigation command center.
The Coca-Cola Company: Retooling Its Atlanta Headquarters to ...
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Coca-Cola Company today announced that it was implementing measures to reduce energy consumption at its two million square foot world headquarters by 23 percent and reduce its water consumption by nearly 15 percent. These efforts are expected to eliminate more than 10,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, which is the equivalent of removing 2,000 cars from the road. "By taking bold measures to conserve natural resources in our own backyard, we want to send a message to companies and individuals that combating a leading global environmental problem demands local action," said Bryan Jacob, The Coca-Cola Company's energy and climate protection manager. "We all have a role to play, from using energy-efficient lighting where we can, to repairing leaky faucets and watering our lawns only in the morning and the evening.
