Lakeshore Living Show
Owning a lake home or cabin isn't just about strolling among the pines and watching the sun set over the lake. There are a few other things to consider. Like septic tanks. And security. And protecting the shoreline. That's why the Lake Home and Cabin Show has seminars on these tougher topics, as well as seminars, demos and displays on North Woods building, landscaping and furnishing, plus exhibits by many other businesses selling life at the lake.More interested in cabin culture than structure? Architect, author and self-proclaimed "cabinologist" Dale Mulfinger will explore the cabin mystique and the allure of "up north." For the kids, the University of Minnesota Raptor Center will sponsor nature shows about bald eagles, complete with a real eagle's nest. The Lake Home and Cabin Show is open from 2 to 9 p.m.
Report backs plan for huge wind farm
Protesters fighting plans for the region's biggest wind farm have been dealt a major blow, after a long-awaited independent study backed a 28-turbine development on moors in Northumberland. The study, by award-winning consultants Ove Arup and commissioned by the North-East Assembly, says the site at North and South Charlton, near Alnwick, could accommodate 100 megawatts of wind energy. Two wind-farms are currently proposed in the area - one with 18 turbines at Middlemoor, by Npower Renewables, and a second of 10 turbines by RidgeWind Ltd at neighbouring Wandylaw. Although separate entities, locals say they are geographically close enough to effectively form a single cluster. .
Reconfiguring the square key to downtown revitalization
I have been a major supporter of downtown revitalization, have invested in real estate over time in the downtown area, and try to do all that I can to collaborate with the various associations and focus groups to support this significant economic engine for our community. To that end, I have held and expressed my opinion many times in forums and Transportation Organization discussions that the single largest impediment to downtown redevelopment and the ability to maximize the market potential for this area is the existence of the square in the present configuration. I find it very interesting that developers engaged in the renovation of the Heer's also see the current square as an obstacle to populating this premier area. .
