Regular care keeps grass healthy, thick
Lawn care season is here, hurried along by an ultra-warm March. Growth of grass will now slow down, but mow you must through this cold weather. Many homeowners may be in the market for a new lawn mower or tractor. The May issue of Consumer Reports (CR) magazine features ratings of lawn mowers and tractors to help consumers decide which type and brand is the best for their needs. Manufacturers have added more labor-saving features, such as electric starting and wider-cutting blades at a lower cost for consumers. For example, electric starting is available for an additional $40 instead of the $100 it once cost. Models from Honda and Toro topped CR's ratings in the gas-powered, self-propelled category and scored well in reliability. Mowers that were found to perform best on most lawns and were easy to use include Honda's HRX217HXA, $700, which topped CR's ratings, and the Toro 20073, $370, a CR best buy.

After a couple of farm visits last week, I stopped by His & Hers Greenhouse as I returned to the office. At this time of the year my green thumb starts to itch just as it does with many of you. I wanted to take a look at some of the flowering plants Wayne Price had available, and get some idea of what I could do with my landscape this spring in order to add a little color and beauty. I also wanted to check on his greenhouse tomatoes to see how they were doing this year. As Wayne greeted me the first thing he said was, "Come back here. I want to show you something." Wayne and I walked back to one of his greenhouses, and as we walked in the door I was totally surprised when I saw two huge tomato plants, loaded with tomatoes, some of them completely ripe and ready to pick, growing in an attractive tub.
Landscaping will include jogging, cycling tracks
Dubai: Cycling and jogging tracks will be provided along the city's major roads as part of road landscaping projects by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said a senior official. The RTA will spend Dh170 million this year on 45 landscaping projects along Dubai's roads including intersections and interchanges. "The landscaping projects not only aim at the beautification of roads but also contribute to enhancing green areas in the city, in addition to controlling ... pollution," said Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, Chief Executive Officer of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA. Dubai Municipality plans to achieve eight per cent of greenery in the city by 2012, which has been affected by the massive cutting of trees due to road expansion works. .
