SmithGroup Design of the Normandy American Cemetery Visitor Center ...

WASHINGTON, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- SmithGroup, a leading architecture and engineering firm, says the design of the soon-to-open Normandy American Cemetery Visitor Center will express a quiet dignity -- a tribute of respect to the Cemetery.

The new, $30 million Visitor Center at the Normandy American Cemetery is nearing completion. It will be dedicated on the 63rd anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 2007, by the American Battle Monuments Commission.

The 30,000-square-foot visitor center is situated on a cliff overlooking Omaha Beach in Colleville-sur Mer, France, site of the historic D-Day landings. The Allied forces that stormed the beach, part of the largest amphibious assault ever staged, had a goal to liberate mainland Europe from Nazi occupation during World War II.

New Rules on Watering Your Lawn

The dry weather has prompted stricter rules for Georgia residents. The Environmental Protection Division has issued a level two drought response. This further limits what you can do outside your home.

Anne Buchanan works in her yard almost every day in Columbus. She didn't know that watering her lawn at midday was not suppose to happen. "We don't watch that much tv and we don't get a paper so," she says.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division has decided that homeowners are now limited to watering their lawns between midnight and 10 am. Odd numbered addresses are suppose to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Even numbered addresses are limited to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. But Buchanan says the midnight to 10 am hours are very inconvenient.
